BERES is simply the world’s most premium golf club line. Golfers playing it appreciate the impeccable detail and craftsmanship, and value the prestige and status that comes with having BERES in their bag. They also want the best-possible performance from their clubs to increase distance, forgiveness and their enjoyment of the game even if they have a slower swing speed. If you’re in this discerning group, consider seeing one of our exclusive retailers or contact Honma to get fit for BERES to match your unique swing. Any club in the BERES line will upgrade your game to five stars.
BERES provides the highest level of legendary Honma craftsmanship, holistic design and precision lightweight shaft making. Designed and produced only by our most experienced takumi (expert Japanese craftsmen) with an unparalleled beauty and exceptional performance, BERES is geared to help golfers generate needed speed while also producing more consistently straight ball flight. From the super-premium Two- and Three-Star BERES lines, to the ultra-premium Four- and Five-Star offerings, BERES features an uncompromised level of detail to provide the golfer with outstanding performance and beauty beyond comparison.
Each offering in the BERES family’s Two-to-Five-Star rating system has its own unique and progressive level of shaft performance and cosmetic details. While the Four- and Five-Star models possess more exotic shaft materials, precious metal details and jewelry-like aesthetics, all the star grades, including Two- and Three-Star lines, pack equally-impressive design technology into easy-to-hit configurations. All BERES metalwoods feature a maximum active speed slot that runs across the front of the sole and wraps around the sides. This innovative design allows the face structure to “activate” and flex at lower swing speeds providing distance even on mis-hits and corrective gear effect for longer, straighter flight.
Cosmetically, these metalwoods feature a BERES logo on the crown to aid with alignment, while a radial Mole in the Hole logo spans the attractive silver club face for a super-premium look at address.
BERES irons have a forged club head with 3D-wrap L-cup face technology. The 3D-wrap L-Cup has a thin face thickness and includes 3 compliant speed slots on the sole, all to maximize ball speed and forgiveness. “The three slots combined with the thin face in the 3D-wrap L-Cup face create speed potential for players of all swing speeds,” says Mark Myrhum, X of Global Product for Honma Golf. These FEA designed compliant slots, one external and two internal, can be seen on the inside floor of the back cavity.
Our holistic, elevated approach to meticulous hand-crafted construction is evident in every BERES club through the super-premium, distance-enhancing ARMRQ (pronounced AR-MARK) shafts. All ARMRQ high smash factor shafts made in Japan Sakata use Metal Hybrid Armor technology visible under the grip. This multi-material weave pushes flex to the middle of the shaft and provides counter-balance weighting for faster swing speed. Three- through Five-Star shafts use M40X shape memory fiber in what Honma terms as Twist Fleuret technology.
“Like a sword used in fencing, the shaft flexes but recovers more quickly back to its original shape adding even more swing speed and that effect improves with each (Two through Five) Star grading for more control and distance,” says Honma’s North American General Manager Chris McGinley. “Four-Star shafts get added high-strength and lightweight T1100G composite material in the tip, while the ARMRQ Five-Star shaft is the most advanced shaft in golf with full length T1100G in addition to the Metal Hybrid Armor and Twist Fleuret technologies.”
Cosmetically, Four-Star clubs include the likes of gold paint with vaporized gold powder sourced from Germany and applied via a special process, 24K gold grade mark badge in the irons, 24K gold ferrule trim, and gold grip marks. Five-Star products are the most luxurious products Honma offers – golfers cherish them as both jewelry and works of art that perform extremely well on the course. Those clubs include traditional deep gold paint with the special vaporized gold powder, and the exclusive use of platinum in the ferrule and badges, plus 24K gold accents in the ferrule and grip mark.
“In the Four- and Five-Star grades, we use significant amounts of precious metals,” says Hiroshi Suwa, the Head of Product Development and the lead Takumi with 42 years of service at Honma Golf (mostly in Sakata, Japan). “This is not just a superficial effort. To turn these ferrules during assembly, for instance, we have to use a special beltless heating and smoothing process so that the precious metals are not damaged. Only Honma’s most experienced Takumi are allowed to work on BERES clubs, so no detail is overlooked in our quest to deliver confidence and desirable beauty to our BERES customers.”
