CARLSBAD, Calif. – Honma, maker of expertly-crafted, high-performance golf equipment, now proudly showcases its award-winning T//World W4 Wedge line with custom fittings at its Honma Experience and Honma Mobile Experience locations across North America as well as distinctive artistic personalization courtesy of Jacob Sanborn, the renowned Wedge Wizard.
CHonma understands that selecting the right wedges is one of the most personal choices a golfer can make. With the ideal loft, lie angle, sole design, look and feel, expertly-crafted wedges can bring the player a huge burst of confidence and a sense of trust around the greens that is essential to good scoring. So, when an unbiased panel of testers from MyGolfSpy named the T//World W4 2019’s “Most Wanted Wedge,” it was a welcome validation of the design and performance of a segment of the Honma line some consider the brand’s most underrated offering.
With respect to the personal nature of a golfer’s wedges, Honma has taken every step to ensure that T//World W4 Wedge users are playing the club that ideally suits their short game as well as personal style. A golf industry star-in-the-making, Sanborn brings a playfully-edgy artist’s sensibility to the personalized Wedge Wizard designs he stamps, paint-fills, hammers, stipples and applies finishes onto T//World W4 Wedges. His trademark signature- a wizard’s hat stamping with custom paint fills- has already elevated the appearance of more than 350 wedges.
Golfers looking to play personalized Honma wedges have two exclusive options to explore with a Honma Master Fitter. Golfers can elect to “Craft Their Own” and play the artist with options to customize in tiers that include begin with simply adding words, numbers or phrases with a choice of paint-fill colors. From there, buyers may opt for a hammered texture in the sculpted recess of the wedge that creates a unique “hand formed” look and appeal. Sanborn can even apply a custom Pre-Rust, Gun Metal or Torched Blue finish on a wedge or set to stand out even more.
“A personal reflection of the individual makes for great artwork on a wedge,” he says. “I want wedges to express who the golfer is, much like a watch or hat, custom wedges can reflect that person's style and character. I really think what we’re doing in the Wedge Wizard Custom Workshop is helping make golf cool as a broad range of golfers get the chance to rock personalized gear that looks as good as it performs. We’ve had hip hop artists, rock stars and professional DJs into the workshop-- early adopters who are onto trends before they’re even trends-- so we’re very excited about where we can take this custom program.”
Wedge Wizard limited-edition Original Designs (OG) are also available and can be built to spec. OG designs feature special memorable “one-off” stampings, color combinations, and special stamping locations on the wedge, only available to that specific design. OG designs are produced in small, collector-centric batches. Collectible OG creations, from bold to stylish to whimsical, are released whenever the Wedge Wizard is struck by a new idea.
“Jacob is incredibly talented and brings a youthful edge to our beautifully-crafted wedges that makes them stand out in a special way. The pieces he produces in the Wedge Wizard by Honma workshop continue our heritage of dedicated artisans delivering the finest-looking and finest-performing clubs in the world,” says Honma general manager Chris McGinley.
Detailed custom fitting appointments are available at fixed-location Honma Experience destinations at Reunion Resort & Golf Club in Orlando, Florida; Ko Olina Golf Club in Oahu, Hawaii; and The Golf Performance Project, Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia as well as at Honma Mobile Experience fittings in more than a dozen other markets across North America. T//World W4 wedges, built with S20C forged steel, are eye-catching with a meticulously-designed and shaped profile, built by master craftsmen in Sakata, Japan and perform to the highest standards. Cosmetically, these wedges stand apart with their sculpted back design, but the process isn’t all about looks.
This unique design uses elegant sculpting to enable specific Progressive Weighting of the club heads from loft to loft. Using a technological approach Honma calls Progressive Control, a low center of gravity and an I-Sole design is found on the 48- , 50- and 52-degree wedges with camber and trailing edge relief that promotes a clean takeaway and smooth turf interaction on full shots. Golfers will find a high CG in the 54-, 56-, 58- and 60-degree models and a crescent-shaped C-Sole design, with heel and toe relief, brings advanced versatility and forgiveness around the greens, whether the club face is square or opened.
The handsome combination of a finish that is partially blasted and partially polished with a cross milled face reinforces these wedges’ refined aerodynamics. Paired with an NS Pro Modus 125 Wedge shaft, the T//World W4 is a great fit for a broad ranges of skill levels. Wedge fittings can be scheduled at all Honma Experience locations and at Honma Mobile Experience fittings.
